Snickers Bars were first invented by Frank Mars in 1930 and was given the name after one of Mr Mars’s favourite horses. When first sold Snickers only cost 5 cents. Snickers Bars were originally sold under the name Marathon in the UK and Ireland until 1990.
In 1994 Snickers became the official snack of the Summer Olympics much to the disgust of many nutritionists. But that was before Snickers Protein Bars were available!
The pattern on the bottom of the Snickers bar is imprinted by the cooling conveyor belt in the Mars factory.
Snickers is one of the best selling chocolate bars on the planet being sold in more than 70 countries worldwide and totalling sales of more than £1.5 billion.
